Prague is one of my favorite places in terms of cities so far, didnt get out into the country but I imagine it would be similar to Hungary or Slovakia. Went for a few days mid-week and had a great time. Book accomodation before you go for good deals. We arrived late at night with no plans (as usual) and paid quite high prices for a fairly ***ty room as the locals are quite prepared to take the p*ss. I think you can get the best deals by pre-booking on the internet. Don't get a taxi round town as it is small enough to walk everywhere round the old city and cabs will charge the earth. It should only cost about 600 from the airport to the city.
