Mongolia, the second communist country in the world (1924) has more in common with the USSR than with China's Maoist traditions. If you like Kiev, Minsk, Irtusk, or Moscow you will like Mongolia's cities.

Aside: The capitol, Ulan Bator, is in better shape than Bucharest. That is not saying much perhaps, but you will be pleasantly surprised.
