As an airline crew member, we tend to see any destination in short "chunks". The normal procedure is to gather after a flight, have a beverage, and decide what we should explore the following day in the time available before departure (normally layovers are only 24 hours). The following day, we are up early (due to the time difference), have a quick workout, and are out the door to explore our objective. There are few cities to compare to Shanghai for variation in architecture, people, and commerce. Every trip is an adventure and I could spend months exploring. The people are friendly, understanding to our obvious linguistic limitations, and patient. The city provides an opportunity to look past, AND look forward to the path being followed by the evolution taking place in this dynamic country. Excitement, beauty, history, culture. What more could a traveller and tourist want? |
