Hamburg - A gate to the world

My Dream City (to live in)

Hamburg Harbour
"...the people of Hamburg are unfriendly, stiff and always following the money...!?"

But the idea of the stubborn Hanseatic is as popular as it is WRONG! I know this city and some of its people since I was a little boy (not so long ago, hehe!). And I have spent some of my best weeks of my life in Hamburg. The city offers a wide range of all sorts of lifestyle, attitude, personality and creativity. For me Hamburg is the very German city with the best modern architecture without violating the view reminders of the pre-war edificies.

In February 2002 I had the possibility to spend 5 weeks in Hamburg because I was doing a clinical elective at UKE (Universitätsklinikum Eppendorf). This, too, was a very important experience I have made in my life. I got to know my future working place as I was imagining it in my mind: a friendly staff, a professional and casual working climate, a caring attitude towards the patients and a highly scientific in- and output. There, students are not used as "cheap slaves" to do the everyday work but are really integrated into the normal work of the doctors. Great!

Most times that I have been in HH I am staying with friends of my family. Their hospitality goes beyond all! I always feel so much at home with Beate, Wolfgang, Eva, Anna and Max - that a good-bye always makes me sad.
