Paço Real (the Royal Palace), Sintra
This was the summer residence of the Portugese Royal family. The palace is situated right in the middle of beautiful Sintra, a small town perfectly fit on a green hill. The climate is always more moderate than in Lisbon, which is only 30 km away. But the change of climate is also visible in the vegetation found in Sintra. Since 1996 the whole place is on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. The National Palce of Sintra reminded me a lot of Mauric castles, especially the two dominating conical chimneys. The tour through the magnificent interior (the outside is very modest, though) gives you a rather good insight of the royal life in the past.
