Favorite thing: Wadi Rum, the Moon Valley, is a vast area in Jordan's very Sout-East close to the border with Saudi Arabia. Legendary Lawrence of Arabia gave these mountain the name 'The 7 Pillars of Wisdom' which feature as the title of his famous book.

Favorite thing: The Monastery, Ed Deir, has one of the most splendid faccades of Petra. It was built in the late time of the Nabataens (the ancient rulers of Petra, fourth century BC to first century AD) and is reached over many steps in the very end of the area.

Favorite thing: Jerash (the Roman city of Gerasa) from the first century AD is a well preserved ancient city about 50km north of Amman. On the picture you see the Arch of Hadrian (129 AD). There is also an astonishing alley of 56 pillars aound a square and much more of them along the main road, Cardo.

Favorite thing: The wall paintings of Qasr Amra appear to be a little 'too much' considering the Islamic background of the kalifs... so now onder why there are many stories about what the entertainment in those palaces was all about!

Favorite thing: The palaces (=Qasr)of the Umayyads are situated in the Eastern Desert (East of Amman) and were built for the entertainment and pleasure of the kalifs.
Qasr Amra contains a hammam (a bath) with splendid paintings on the walls.

Petra, the mystic Pink City,...

Favorite thing: Petra, the mystic Pink City, covers a huge site in the South of Jordan (200km apart from Amman) and is the country's top attraction. On the picture you see the treasure house 'El Khazneh' (famous because of an Indiana Jones movie which was partly shot there) which comes into view at first when the visitor walks through the narrow canyon called Siq.
