My first travel to an Arab country was my trip to Jordan and the beginning of a lasting "faible" for the whole region and its culture and also its religion (there is so much in common with the Christian belief!!!). In a year where the peace process in Israel was at a turning point (to the better) and the borders between the neighbours opened for the first time since decades, it was a very interesting experience for me to get to know this quite modern country with so many fantastic historic and natural sites such as Petra, Jerash, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea.
Now in 2002 things unfortunately have changed to the worse in Israel. Late King Hussein's son Abdullah is now leader of the Hashemite kingdom and I do hope is continuing his father's work. I wish that this area with its rich culture (Arab, Jewish, Christian) should find a way of living in peace!
