My beautiful home country is so full of cultural attractions and natural highlights (there is already so much on VT about the famous places), that I have decided to promote the place where I come from on my Austria page - Upper Austria!
I was born in Steyr, a small town at the mouth of the two rivers "Enns" and "Steyr". My family also owns a weekend house in Vorderstoder, which is a tiny mountain village in Upper Austria's south surrounded by a breathtaking panorama of impressing summits of the "Kalkalpen" (seen on the picture). I know this area almost by heart as I spent most of my childhood (weekends and holidays) there. I still go there frequently when I am fed up with Vienna, the city where I am now attending university since 1997 and what I call home now!
The village itself has only some 750 inhabitants. It is situated in the valley called "Stodertal" in 800m above sea level. The village-center consists of the small gothic church (with a fine altarpiece of the famouse Baroque painter Kremser-Schmitt) and a few shops, hotels, restaurants and farm houses. It is a place to go in every season. The panoramic view in the background are mountains up to 2515m high.
Have a look and maybe a few of you go there on his/her next trip to Austria. This area is for sure not as touristy as Salzkammergut or other more popular regions of Austria!
