If you are wanting to take guided bus tours or ranger-guided tours which will get you up close and personal to the ruins you must buy tickets at the visitor center, you can not buy them anywhere else in the park.
The self-guided tour requires no ticket but you won't be able to get to some of the ruins up close.
Located in the high plateau country of southwestern Colorado. |
| | About 1,400 years ago, a group of people choose Mesa Verde for their home. For more than 700 years their descendants lived and flourished here, eventually building elaborate stone communities in the sheltered alcoves of the canyon walls. In the late 1200's they left their homes and moved away. |
There has been several fires in this park which were started by lighting. One and a half weeks after our July 2003 the park closed down due to a fire. | | |
