Beijing...the dragon is awakening....!

by sugarpuff - last update: May 21, 2009

This was taken at a middle school in Dali, Yunnan Province. I was cycling around the villages with four other friends at the beginning of this month and we could hear children playing so we went to investigate. What happened next was well beyond our imaginations! It was like a swarm of bees, a herd of cows rushing towards to us! They were so excited to see 'foreigners' and were happy beyond control! I imagine that there are lots of westerners passing through Dali every year, but I dont know if they ever pass by this school! It was the May Day holidays so they weren't having class, but just playing in the playground. They came from everywhere, the classrooms, peering over the balconies, the playground, the toilets..everywhere you looked there were screaming happy children heading straight for us! We had bicycles with us and they even clung on to those when we said we were leaving...really strong children!!! We managed to escape though and I lived to tell the story!

Bicycles...cyclying into extinction

Well after being an official member of VT for quite a few years, but a more involved member for the last year and a half, I have only JUST discovered that there are two sites for Beijing.....How stupid could I be!! And it turns out that this particular page that you're reading on now, is the most popular for putting tips etc.... So how do I get you VTers interested in China to see my other Beijing page...well..I put a link..and just hope that you're interested enough to move over to it.....!!!

So here goes.....to discover much much more about my life in Beijing and China as a whole (I promise you'll be interested!), please go HERE!

As it stands now..10th Oct 2006, I am currently copying all my Beijing Shi pages to my Beijing page, so people can read them on either pages.

Your "you have to see that no matter what" attitude is EXACTLY the reason why these rip offs work in the first place! Because the "rich" tourists will pay and do anything to see the tourist traps the whole industry is being destroyed (not just in China).
