The realm of the epos | Jyskyjärvi; Carelia, Russia |
Welcome to the homelands of the Kalevala epos - which we Finns consider our cultural roots (at least partially)
The area covers the border lands between Finland and Russian-Carelia on both sides...
One lively example is Jyskyjärvi - located at the south-east end of the Kuittijärvi (lake) and connected via rivers and lakes to Paanajärvi (a village too =) which now is in danger being a victim of russian energy policy. They are planning to build a water power plant and flood the area.
This village is situated on a couple of islands connected by really stunning bridges. |
