The Birth Region of the Kalevala
The Birth lands of the finnish epos Kalevala are situated mostly on the nowadays Russian side of the border to Finland.
This pictures shows a very small and remote village in the region of Viena Carelia. Venehjärvi and the peninsula used as a graveyard.
In the heart of Viena Carelia
Here you see the large lake called Kuittijärvi.
All the important and significant villages where the poems were collected from are situated around this elixir of life.
