Slovenia from inside

New! :

You are kindly invited to this page I've just found and think its very interesting. It features "portrets from Slovenia":

http://puk.de/virtual-museum/magazin/11/sechswege/slowenien.html

For some, Slovenia is a precious green secret corner of Europe. For others it is a Goopher Village (like in The Main Street, written by Lewis), with all its good and bad points. We are a small nation. People are kind, but also narrow-minded. They dont accept changes quickly. They have difficulties adjusting. They are often suspicious towards strangers, but at the same time very hospitable. Sometimes I wish they could be less prejudiced. Everyone has its own, usually stiff opinion.

Slovenians love flowers and trees and they are mad about mountain hiking. To have a house of his own is a Slovenians dream. Slovenian will get into debts because of building a huge house (a few floors and many, too many balconies that are then not used at all) for them - and their children. Those are usually expected to stay at the "property" (or in the house). Then (and not secondly!) there has to be an expensive car (although our country is very small and we prefer to walk) - just to make the neigbours jelous.

We are very proud of our sports achievements so before you are planning a vacation there, it is good to learn about our sportsmen and women. If you are well prepared you can discuss this issue with anyone. They will admire your knowledge and feel flattered. You will easily become their friend.

If you walk down the street or go for a walk - anywhere in Slovenia, for Slovenian - chances are, you will meet someone you already know. Good chances are also, you will meet someone who can speak English. And there are very good chances you will bump into a poet. We are nation of poets. Presumambly, every third Slovenian writes poems. I know I did. And there are many others where I came from.

Slovenia from outside

Well, just to show you the winter version of upper pic... interesting, isn't it? But you will have to tell the story from outside yourself! :) We Slovenians love to hear them.

This comment about eating in a citizen's home is the kind of thing we should all seek. Thank you for writing this. I hope you do more of them. I enjoy your writings.

Somebody didn't do her homework. :-) I've been there three yrs ago and remember that the monk said the oldest pharmacy is in France, the second oldest is in Dubrovnik and this one is the third. I have a memory of an elephant for trivial details. :-)
