On my recent trip to Cardiff, we took the chance to escape the busy city by going to Penarth which is only about a 30 minutes ride by train from Cardiff Central in the south of Cardiff Bay.
A 5 minute walk from the station through Windsor Gardens (full of a large variety of color-rich flora) lead us downhill to the Penarth seafront.
A lovely pier invites to enjoy the fresh breeze and the sun, gives the chance for fabulous burgers, fries and ice-cream.
Worth to see is also the Italian garden next to the numerous restraurants along the esplanade which certainly invite to extended summer-night walks.
Along the nice Penarth esplanade one can walk along the cliffs on an extra path which bypasses a children playground, golf court, and offers its visitors a lovely view across Bristol Channel to the islands Flat Holm and Steep Holm and of course the beautiful coastline.
The cliff walk ends in a nice narrow path. We guess it leads along the cliffs but we didn't follow it any further.
- Pros:Lovely seafront, nice cliff walk
- Cons:Numerous tourists, less other attractions
- In a nutshell:An escape from Cardiff

That narrow path leads you to Lavernock Point, where Marconi broadcast the first ever radio transmission over water - glad you had a great time here...:-)
