Restaurant Name: My mum's kitchen
We'd sit on the veranda peeling shrimps at 40 degrees Celsius outside temperature. In cold and dreary Holland people would die eating such shrimps (salmonella) but not here. The shrimp are dried and used as taste enhancer and keep for years too.
Favorite Dish: Pitjil which is a pestled mixture of peanuts, tamarind, garlic, palm sugar, peppers and many many spices. Endless mixed and stamped in a mortar, makes a hard brick of fragrant pitjil. Break off a bit and mix it with boiling water to create a hot and spicy sateh (peanut) sauce.
Of course it can be bought, but this is the best. It keeps for years in or outside the fridge.
