I visit here every month.
Meppel is THE city of book printing in the Netherlands. There is also a museum about it which was founded by the owner of the largest printer in The Netherlands: Giethoorn-ten Brink.
The museum was opened by Prince Bernhard, father of the current Queen.
Famous are the Thursday Meppel Day in summer.
Each Thursday there are a lot of bands in the town center and a market. Young and old crowd the streets and dance or listen and drink a beer.
Around Meppel are many interesting place to visit. Among them:
Giethoorn
Blokzijl
Staphorst
and also lakes and extraordinary landscapes like the Wieden.
There are quite a few places around Meppel that are worth visiting. However, Meppel is on the brink of two provinces, so you would not be able to detect that if you look at my Travel Page.
You could easily cycle between these places. It's a lovely rural area.

A great page! I really enjoyed what I have read so far....'would love to return! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year! Greetings.
Excellent page AT! the Chateau is most interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Meppel, to me, was only a train stop on the way to Zwolle from Groningen. Thanks for the tips that have made it a worthwhile stop!
I knew the name Meppel from out of several books indeed. Very interesting page about this town that I only knew by its name so far.
I knew there were terpen and standing stones but never knew about the druckeridge - I'm going! thats all there is to it
Excellent page AT... Ahhh... the Chateau sounds like my kind of place to stay... especially since it has a wine cellar.. ;-))
The waste net is a good idea! "Enough for a proper pub crawl" made me laugh! By the way what is a Transformer House? Really enjoyed this page!
I wouldn't mind having a nite in the Chateau:-))&you made me all hungry with these Restaurant tips..Lunchtime in CHCH......lovely page, tanx AT
