"UNESCO Heritage site, fine wine, fortifications..." Steenwijk by ATLC

Much to my surprise, Steenwijk harbours a world acclaimed building and park from the Jugendstil period (end 19th century). In the tips you will later find the brilliant cast iron gate that first catches the eye. But moving beyond that gate, nearer the house, you cannot help but exclaim in admiration at this beautiful main entrance door.

Steenwijk fortifications

There are quite a few places around Meppel (main town in the area) that are worth visiting. However, Meppel is on the brink of two provinces, so you would not be able to detect that if you look at my Travel Page.

You could easily cycle between these places. It's a lovely rural area.
