Grand Duchess Charlotte Monuments Review

This duchess reigned from 1919 to 1964 and was one of the best loved and admired leaders of the country. She stands, surrounded by government buildings and the Our Lady cathedral. The memorial has inscribed 'Mir hun lech gaër' which means: we love you. It is a tribute from the Luxemburger people to the Grand Duchess.

This was built in 1838 by the architect Justin Rémont. The style is called neo-classical.

The founder of Luxembourg, King Willem II of Holland (which also included what is currently part of Belgium) and Grand Duke of Luxembourg stands as a statue on a square named after him. The town hall is on that square and on saturdays there's a food market.

Seat of parliament Historic City Center Review

Parliament is situated right next to the Ducal Palace. In Luxembourg the Grand Duke can override any decision made by government and parliament. There is a single chamber parliament. The chairman of parliament and the prime minister meet with the Grand Duke every week so that problems can be solved in advance. Therefore it is rare that the Grand Duke will override a decision.
The German flag is in front of the parliament because some German official is visiting.

The west door Cathedral Notre Dame Review

The west portal is called the Maria Portal and was built in the 1930s. The Maria statue reminds me of Dutch architectural architecture during that same period. Reminiscent of the art deco period.
