Food or beverage: A tiny supermarket (supermercato)

Just round the corner from our hotel I found a tiny supermarket. I always have a bottle of water with me when walking about a city, and buying them in a supermarket instead of a street stall saves heaps of money.

    What To Buy: Bottled water.

What To Pay: Small bottles of flat mineral water for € 0,32 instead of the usual € 2 per bottle anywhere else.

  • Name of Shop: Farmacia

A sore throat threatened me during my stay in Rome, so I looked for a pharmacist which is a Farmacia in Italian. You can recognise them by neon green cross outside the shop.
There are a lot of them around town, so the address here is only if you are near the Vatican.

What To Buy: I bought some good lozenges to suck on: NEOBOROCILLINA. They were excellent, I didn't have any trouble after taking them for a day.

What To Pay: 20 pcs for € 5.

After walking most of the Porta Portese market, we made our way back to the northern part of Trastevere via the Via B. Musolino. There I found a very busy bakery that sold cakes, cookies and savoury pastries. It was a Sunday, and the shop was very full. That's why I couldn't make a proper photo of all the sweet delights there. We were going to have lunch soon, so I only bought some savoury pastries.

What To Buy: Six pieces which were 2 mini pizza's (one bite), 2 fluff pastries with spinach and ricotta and 2 with some nice tasting meat.

What To Pay: The six for only € 1,39, a great deal!

Walking about Trastevere, I found this tiny shop in an equally small street which I can't find on the map. However, I went in to ask for a business card, so the address below should be correct.

What To Buy: The shop is filled with the craziest shoe designs I ever saw. See the photo.

What To Pay: I have no idea! There were no prices and therefore I expect to pay a lot!

  • Name of Shop: La Cravatta su misura

I passed by this shop coming from the Pantheon and realised that it is very unusual to see a shop that sells only tailormade ties. It was a tiny, quite modest shop, with an air of style that befits a gentleman :-). I asked the man for a business card, because I had no need for tailormade ties but it's always good to know it exists.
    Delightful!

What To Buy: Gentlemen, pay attention! You choose a silk and it is turned into a tie. As regular customer you will get a special label with your name sewn on the back.
Have a look at their website. Part of it is in English, but you can make out the rest easily, even in Italian. There is also a webshop.

What To Pay: 80-100 USD (from the website). You can buy via their webshop: 60 USD for silk and silk/wool, 80 USD for cashmere, and 100 USD for silk shawls (which I, as a lady, could crave too!).

On the corner of Piazza Navona, there is a lovely toyshop that's like a fairytale to wander in. It's all beautifully laid out, very full and if you want to go upstairs, then simply ask. The stairs are corded off but you can ask to go up.

What To Buy: Loads and loads of lovely fluffy toys, many dog and cat breeds. Also games and fairy tale stuff. Venetian masks. Games and toys of the more luxurious kind.

What To Pay: Anything between a few euro and much more :-)

Let's see ... Valentino, ice-cream, homemade pasta, grilled vegs, crazy shoes.. a read that changes me much from my current occupation (typing our company statutes). A great interesting first visit it was. Waiting for more. :-)
