Getting TO/AROUND: For € 16 you can buy a public transportation pass, valid for 7 days, from the first validation. We made excellent use of it, the metro is easy (essentially just two lines). The busses were a bit more difficult but the easy part was that the end station (Roma Termini) was only 100 metres from our hotel.

More information on the link below (in English). You have to scroll down to where you see 'CIS Weekly Ticket).
    The pass itself is called
    CIS (Carta Integrata Settimanale).

Getting TO/AROUND: It's a well known fact (and true!) that Rome's favourite means of transportation is the scooter. I picked up a brochure from the hotel which gives an indication of prices and how it works.

This rental company is located in station Roma Termini, between the main entrance and the bus station. Open 7 days a week.

Price indication (2007) for a 50 cc Scooter:
    Per hour € 8
    Per day (9.30-19hrs) € 35
    Per 24 hrs € 37
    Weekends € 25 (per day)
    For a week € 25 (per day)
Note: you need a drivers license.

There are also 125 cc and 125 cc Comfort Scooters for rent.
And bicycles at € 10 per 24 hrs.

    They take creditcard payments.

    Metro-Bus-Tram: Bus

    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: The bus rides that we mostly did was between Roma Termini and Piazza Venezia/Largo Argentina (lines 40, 64), which is a major bus stop. With the week pass we could hop on anywhere. You need to study the signs at the busstops to see where the busses are going. Which personally I found a bit difficult.
Best to get a good bus map of Rome. I didn't have one.
The small bus on the photos is one that rides around neighbourhoods, like Trastevere.
Twothirds of the time we did not have a seat, busses were very crowded.
Tickets are not sold on buses so you need to either have a pass or buy a ticket at tobacco stores (Tobacchio), newspaper stands and cafés. A ticket, valid for 75 minutes costs € 1.

Tip:When you get into a crowded bus, put your rucksack or bag back to front so that you can keep an eye on your stuff.

The good news though, is that Rome is quite walkable and if you've done the largest stretch by bus or metro, you can easily walk to wherever you want to go.

Getting TO/AROUND: I've been looking for an English link to the Italian railway system and finally found it.
We used the train coming from the airport into Roma Termini station. And also to go to Ostia Antica, a half hour ride.

Let's see ... Valentino, ice-cream, homemade pasta, grilled vegs, crazy shoes.. a read that changes me much from my current occupation (typing our company statutes). A great interesting first visit it was. Waiting for more. :-)
