The castle and a famous composer

The castle in Weissenfels shows the town is: little bits are restored after more than 70 years of total absence of maintenance (first WWII, then the DDR regime).
The famous German composer Heinrich Schütz spent the last years of his life here. He is generally regarded as the most important composer before J.S. Bach and is held in high regard in Germany.

His former house is now being restored.

Town hall and main church

This bit looks nice.

Still lots to be done

You can see a great many fine buildings like this, just rotting away. Such a pity.

Heinrich Schuetz was also the name of our music-teacher in school and once he also thought us about this composer with the same name ! ;-)
