  • Greece is famous for the hospitality of its people.Athens is no exception although the hectic way of life is sometimes an obstacle to make this trait as obvious as in any other part of the country.Yet,when you need help don't hesitate to ask for it! *The majority of Athenians can speak English(and French and German are the following most popular-mostly among younger people).*But even if you don't speak English nor Greek, the people will try to be useful even doing signs!*Also,in case you don't speak Greek, try to learn some words...This will be really appreciated!! *When you enter churches you should be dressed decently. Generally be yourself.Athenians are relaxed people...

  • An outward-facing palm with all five fingers splayed out (as if you're signifying the number 5) is a very rude gesture called "mounja". So,be careful when you want to show the number five so to avoid any misunderstandings.Yet,once the others know you are a foreigner,i suppose there won't be a problem. Furtermore,i recommend you to use this when a driver passes with red light! Normally the one hand is used but in cases of excessive anger both hands are used (put one hand on the other) and are accompanied by a yell like "Na!!"

  • Well, I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this tip. "Koulouria" (kind of small round bread) are sold by street vendors around Athens (in bakeries as well). Try one!
