Look at that picture. Nice eh? Did you notice the blue sky? I admit, I like to change a few things in my pictures, especially the sky, but this is just what it was like that day. Why am I telling you this? Because for that very same day, March the 1st 2003, bad weather had been predicted. Cloudy, lots of rain, hardly any sunshine. In reality it was very sunny, there were few clouds and there was no rain whatsoever. It was a bit warm too, and although officially it was still winter I wished I had put on my summer coat that morning. Which only goes to show that in The Netherlands anything can happen, weather-wise, and such predictions are often as reliable as those from fake gipsy fortunetellers at a fun fair. Never trust a weather forecast completely when you're in The Netherlands.
Enough already! This is about Amersfoort. Probably not the best known of places in The Netherlands, but probably one of the nicest anyway. With lots of remains from the Middle Ages, a few picturesque churches, plenty of beautiful houses, canals and even tasteful modern architecture this is a nice place to spend a day. It's a bit like Utrecht, only smaller and less turbulent.

Re your favourite thing: Have lived in this apartment building for the past 12 years - so it is my favourite Amersfoort building as well. The architect is Jo Crepaine and he is Belgian and lives in Antwerp.
I remember seeing the place you show in General Tips. I believe they are apartments. I thought it would be a very nice place to live! We like Amersfoort very much. I had my first Belgian fries there too.
Thanks for this page. I enjoyed the photos and stories.
