Den Haag, or The Hague if you want. The capital of the province of Zuid-Holland is also de facto the capital of the Netherlands. This is where the goverment resides, where the queen lives and where all the ministries and embassies are. Amsterdam's position as the official capital hardly means anything at all. The Hague is where it all happens.

Many people like Den Haag, and many don't. It's not a very touristic place although it has an impressive collection of old buildings; many palaces, remains of a castle, churches, as well as enough museums to keep you occupied for a week. But somehow Den Haag doesn't quite succeed in presenting itself to the world. A bit of a shame really.
