This town is the successor of the Roman castellum Laurum. Between 719 and 722 St. Boniface worked here. Woerden originally was property of the bishop of Utrecht but in 1306 became part of Holland. In 1989 the town became part of the province of Utrecht.
Although it has its share of modern buildings Woerden is quite a nice place to look at.
