Zutphen: St. Walburgis

Zutphen, a city in the north of the province of Gelderland, close to the border with Overijssel. Once a flourishing member of the Hanseatic League, profiting from the trade on the Baltics, and now a stunningly pretty provincial town, with many reminders of its medieval golden age. A nice place to spend a day or a few hours. You could combine it with a visit to nearby Deventer,which is what I did, although I recommend you not to rush too much.

  • Pros:Great medieval architecture
  • Cons:Con's? What con's? Except that a historic city like this should have a small brewery.
