Libya is an Arabic and Islamic country, lived by more than 5.6 millions of people , most of them are concentrated a long the coast which is approximately 1900 k.m . The area of Libya is 1,750,000 k.m2, that means the population percentage is very low .The two major cities Tripoli and Benghazi are lived by half of the population of Libya. The capital which is explained in Tripoli page) is of course Tripoli ..Benghazi ( the second major city) has a historical, economical and stratigical importance ,that it is the largest city in the eastern part of Libya with an important sea port and airport.. The eastern part of libya used to be known as Pentapolis,,,this latin word that means the five cities. After that it became BARKA in arabic or cyrenaica .. We should know that this part had been occupied by Greek at first ,then by Roman and then they were expulsed by Islamic army advance . |
| | History , Geography and Traditions: Historically , Libya was divided into three main parts or areas ( west , east and south ) . The western part is refeered as Tripolitania . The capital tripoli situates in this part which has been occupied by the americans after WWII . The main archologic cities in these parts are of course Leptis Magna and Sabrata. Tripolitania includes some landscapes in Tarhuna , Khoms , Aljabal Algarbi and Jodaiyem. Farms of orange , olives , dates and different fruits are common and seen clearly if you drive from Misrata to Zawia( 250 km) . The eastern part of Libya was known as Cyrenaica ( anciently as pentapolis ) . This area is rich of Greek and Roman remains , landscapes including mountains ,waterfalls, vallies and etc. Agriculture is common in Derna , Shahat , Albaydha , the coast and Almarj. The main city in this part is Benghazi. Fezzan is the southern part which referred to the French after WWII. Tourists usually prefer visiting it because it represent a unique case in the world tourist and a top secret for those who prefer adventurous tours. Sahara ( the desert )with its oasises , archeology and Islamic history is the most thing they prefer. |
