San Ignacio was our base to explore the nearby Mayan ruins, plus some other "jungle" adventures.
The bus ride from Belize City was extremely comfortable -- we took the express bus, which is only a few bucks more than the local bus, but with tremendous difference. The express bus is a coach bus with air conditioner, and soft seats. It was worth the extra few dollars...
We spent one day visiting the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, and the following day, we booked a trip with a tour operator to go see Barton Creek Cave, Mountain Pine Ridge Forest, and the 1,000 ft. Waterfall. The tour itself was an adventure, and everything that could possibly go wrong, happened: rock in the tire, not enough gas, punctured canoe... Despite all these, we were able to have a good laugh about it all! =)
