| | The Rock The main feature of Gibraltar is its impressive rock, rising 1,400 feet (430 m) out of the sea and 2 miles (3.2 Km) long. It is one half of the 'Pillars of Hercules' from mythology, the Atlas mountains of Morroco across the straights being the other half. It is riddled with natural caves and man man tunnels. Historically it was a good base, controlling the entrance from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic ocean. |
