My Latest Visit to Benidorm Sept. 2002 I had seen the VT Meeting at Benidorm in the forum, a week or so before the meeting I managed to get a flight with 'Go' to Alicante, just 30Km from Benidorm. |

| | The Meeting at Terra Mitica (Sept 2002) The main meeting was planned for Sunday at 'Terra Mitica' a theme park located just outside the town. In attendance were Joaquin (SirRichard) and his family, Carmen (Carmela71), Pilar (Pginer), Manuel (Hosell), Zuzu (Suzanne_M) and myself. . Details and photos from the meeting are in the travelogues below. . The Monday after the meeting Manuel took Carmen and myself to the town of Guadalest in the hills above Benidorm, details and photo's are on my Guadalest page.... http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/2b80b/410bd/ |
| | My First Visit to Benidorm On the 8th. November 2001, I arrived at Alicante airport for a one week, self catering package holiday in Benidorm. Benidorm originally a small fishing town on the coast of the Costa Blanca, has long been a favourite with British holiday makers. In the summer months attended by the younger generations, in winter months by older generations trying to escape the cold British weather. Benidorm itself is comprised of the Old town and the New town. The old town is more typical of a Spanish town, with the local government, police station and post office, many shops, Spanish restaurants and tapas bars. The new town is comprises the holiday district, a long strip of multi-storey hotels, British style bars and fast food outlets. Their are two main beaches Playa de Poniente, to the west of the old town, and Playa de Levante to the east of the old town. Levante fronts the new town and is the busiest of the two. Both beaches are very spacious, and the quality and cleanliness are excellent. I was not aware until I arrived, but the week I visited was Benidorms Annual Fiesta. A five day event to celebrate their local saint. Every day there were huge firework displays, street fairs, processions and live concerts mainly centered around the old town. There are many tourist theme type attractions in Benidorm, such as Terra Mitica ( a Meditteranean style theme park ), Desafio Medieval ( medieval banquet with knights jousting ), Mundomar ( marine and animal park ) and the Benidorm Palace ( Dinner and evening show ). I did not attend any of them so I'd like to refer you to VT member Hosell's... Alicante Page. During my visit the weather was not typical for the time of year. The whole country of Spain experienced a stormy period, with high winds and low temperatures. There was even some snow on the hills behind benidorm, normally that does not arrive until January. During my last few days the weather was returning to normal, and the people to the beaches. |
