"Under construction" Caleruega by Beach_dog

Caleruega Travel Guide: 8 reviews and 15 photos

On a short driving tour from Aranda de Duero, we happened almost by accident upon the small town of Caleruega while driving to Santo Domingo de Silos. The town looked interesting so we stopped to look around and take a few pictures.

The town has a lot to offer the passing traveller on a short visit. Its history dates back at least 1000 years. In 1266 AlfonsoX, King of Castilla built a monastery (convent) here for the Nuns of San Esteban de Gormaz. It survives to this day and can be visited. The town also possesses an interesting 16th. century church and a 10th century tower, part of the old town walls.
