Nerja - A quieter spot on the Costa del Sol.

by Beach_dog - last update: Jul 4, 2003

The rugged coast with its natural bays.
Small beach at Nerja
Nerja is one of the quieter areas of the Costa del Sol, located just 50 kms from Malaga (about 40 minutes by car). Here you can experience a more relaxing time than at many of the busier resorts to the west of Malaga. Once a small fishing village, the town has now grown into a small resort, but has managed to avoid the large concrete hotels of other nearby resorts. The town center is pretty much unchanged, with its narrow streets and whitewashed houses.
Another relaxed bay.
Behind the town are the mountains of the Sierra Almijarra, which make for a scenic backdrop to the area. Dont forget to visit Frigiliana, the small white village just a few kms inland from Nerja, its an outstandingly beautiful village and is only a 10 minute journey by road.

This is a very friendly authentic Welsh bar frequented also by Spanish, owned by 100% Welsh couple who have given the bar character and warmth. Great place to relax or sport inc Rugby. Visitors return time and again including us - a great favourite!

Its the Frigiliana of Spain that I so want to visit. I thought Nerja had lots of expats in villas!

Stace, thank you for rekindling my wonderful memories of Spain and especially of Nerja where my husband & I stayed for a week on our 38-day trip to Spain. Fantastic photographs. I agree with your warning.
