A city built on a mountain ridge, it is split in half by a gaping river gorge of the El Tajo, which drops a sheer 130m. The gorge is crossed by two bridges, one the 18th century arched bridge is of particular interests, the Puente Nueve. Further up the gorge the Puente Arabe, the Arab or Old bridge. Precariously perched along the gorges edges, the whitewashed buildings seem to risk slipping down the sheer slopes. Across the gorge the old Moorish town the Ciudad. The Ciudad retains its Moorish layout, an intricate maze of streets where you can do little but wander at random. |
