In 2001 I planned a trip to Northern Norway - Tromsoe and Kirkenes in the Winter. At the map I have seen that the russian town Murmansk is only a few miles away from Kirkenes. So I planned to visit Murmansk too. This was my first trip to Russia and I wanted to see the life in this big russian city north of the polar circle. A few years ago I have visited Northern Europe in the summer at midnight sun and so it was for me very interesting to see this part of Europe in the winter night....
