HISTORY
The origins of the town go back to the mid-12th century, when a small settlement arose by one of the footpaths. The first Czech name for the town appeared in 1366, in which year the nobles of Rozmberk became the town's owners, and under their rule the town grew. In 1376 Trebon was awarded the rights of a town and in 1378 Karel IV granted it the privilege of importing salt. The biggest period of expansion for the town was in the 16th and 17th centuries, under the rule of the last Rozmberks, the brothers Vilem and Petr Vok of Rozmberk. At this time there was a boom in fishing and brewing. The arrival of Jakub Krcín of Jelcany into the service of the Rozmberks and his positioning at the head of all business activity brought ushered in a new era of building and blossoming. A large part of the town was destroyed in 1562 by fire. At the end of the 16th century Petr Vok, the last Rozmberk, sold his lands to the Emperor Rudolf II to ease his onerous financial situation, and Petr Vok settled down with his court in Trebon. Jan Adolf of Schwarzenberg acquired the Trebon estates in 1600, and the town remained in his family's possession until the 20th century. The historic core of the town was declared a town monument reservation in 1976. |
