Things To Do: Wild Breakfast & Afternoon Tea...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wild Breakfast & Afternoon Tea at the Singapore Zoological Gardens.
The award-winning Singapore Zoo (one of world's best!) has an 'open' concept that uses moats and rock walls as natural barriers.

Do also go to Children's zoo where you get to touch and maybe play with some domestic animals.

You get to have breakfast with six animals at the same time!
    Breakfast: daily at 9am
Afternoon Tea: daily (except Sun and public holidays) at 4pm.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Geylang Serai! Home to the the Malay community since the 1840s.
Try and come during Hari Raya Puasa (usually in November - December, when the Muslims celebrate the new moon of Syawal) if you can! The streets are decorated with colourful lights and the smells of delectable confectionery and tidbits fill the air!
It's a dazzling sight at night!
While you're there, cross over to the Malay Village where you can learn more about the everyday lives of Malays. There's even a 25 minute show - Lagenda Fantasi, based on ancient Arabian Nights' folklore.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Take the Cable Car from Mount Faber to Sentosa!
You get to enjoy the sights of Mount Faber (3rd Highest elevation in Singapore), one of the world's busiest ports and also Sentosa Island from about 70m above ground!
Try the Glass Cabin if you can! Although it costs a little more, it has a see-through bottom, and the sides are transparent!

  • Tip Rating:
  • The day which every proud Singaporean is looking forward to - 9th August, Singapore's Birthday. Be part of the celebration!
Singapore just celebrated her 37th Birthday at the National Stadium!
Performers spend months training for their performances, there are also various military demonstrations, singalongs, pyrotechnic displays etc.
Tickets are given out free (2 for the actual parade and 4 for the preview parade) but tickets are snapped up as soon as they're released.. some 'entrepreneurs' resorted to selling them at black market rates online!
Get the details from the newspaper or from local friends a few weeks (usually mid-July) before the distribution date.

Things To Do: Bukit Timah Nature Reserve...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Bukit Timah Hill (highest elevation in Singapore - 164 metres)
It's one of only 2 rainforests in the world located within a city (the other in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)! It's also believed to contain more species of plants than the entire North American continent. There are monkeys, squirrels etc. WARNING: Don't feed the monkeys. If you attempt to feed one, all the other monkeys will come after you for food. Some are pretty aggressive, so don't attempt to touch them either.

Things To Do: Window-shopping, chilling out...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Window-shopping, chilling out at Holland Village.
A favourite haunt among expatriates, hip Singaporeans and students from nearby colleges & universities. You can find some really trendy restaurants here (Mexican, Vietnamese etc.)! The shops along Lorong Mambong sells lots of beautiful handicraft shops, clothes and souvenirs. The locally-famous magazine stand at the corner of Lorong Liput has LOTS of magazines from what seems like around the world. Makes for endless browsing... :)

Things To Do: Sightseeing at Chinatown!
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the historic home of Singapore's Chinese community. Great place for dining, pick up some souvenirs, trinkets and antiques from all over Asia.
This place is bustling with activity during Chinese New Year (check local calender for dates as they change yearly)! Be prepared to be pushed and squashed though.. as Singaporeans try to get their last minute shopping done!
    Feast your senses!

Things To Do: Sightseeing at Little India!
  • Tip Rating:
  • The traditional home to the Indian community... What you cannot miss will be the ubiquitous high-pitched Indian music, whiffs of Jasmine and other spices plus the colourful saris!
If your stomach starts to grumble, head down to one of the many Indian restaurants in Little India.
I recommend Komala Vilas which is Little India's most famous eatery, serving South Indian vegetarian food.
Also, I LOVE their confectionery which can be really sweet for the untrained palate! *LOL* I think i've an overly sweet tooth. I strongly recommend the Milk Burfi! Tasting of milk, it just melts in your mouth...
If you're thirsty, try their Lassi.. a yoghurt drink. It usually comes in two flavours, Sweet or Sour.
I've tried Sweet, which tastes like any normal plain yoghurt (already quite sour)... I can't imagine how Sour tastes like!
A tip which I discovered from eating spicy Indian food:
Lime Juice is great for getting rid of the burning sensation in your mouth after all that curry and spices!

Directions: It's possible to take a short walk (approx 15 mins) from Bugis MRT which I usually do. But it's better and much less confusing if you take a bus 64, 65, 85, 97 or 111 from Orchard Road. :)
Other Contact: It's EXTREMELY crowded on Sunday
