I have travelled to Bulgaria many times and would recommend anyone go there for a visit. The
cost of tourism in Bulgaria is very cheap and there are many opportunities to visit rural villages as well as the more famous tourist destinations. Sofia being the Capital city is quite western in appearence, there is a newly built Airport located on the outskirts of the Capital. The local currency is the Leva (Lv) though there are many currency convertion booths throughout the towns and all Banks will change U.S. Dollars and other Denominations. Be warned that they only accept prestine condition notes if any currency has a pen mark or tear in the bank note they will not change it,,, Be prepared to bring only New clean Currency from your home before embarking. There is widespread use of Visa and Mastercard throughout the country. My visits have predominantly been centered around the former Capital of Plovidiv. From this town I have based all my travels and made many good friends, I have always found the Bulgarian people extremely warm and friendly more than any other country that I have visited in fact to date.
