"Welcome to Mailo's HomePage" Mailo's Profile
Hi, welcome to my homepage, my name is Ismael but everybody calls me Mailo (pronounced like Milo in english), here in this pic you can see me with my nephew Cesar and my daugther Irma Margarita, I'm the one with the camera bag, this picture was taken in the city of El Progreso, about six hours by car from the capital City of Tegucigalpa here in Honduras.
Honduras is one of the five nations that we call Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and lately Panamá wich is now cosidered as part of central america too. (that makes six nations)(Belize is included in the central american countries, it was called the Brithis Honduras.
I travel a lot inside my conutry and we like to visit all the region too, I have been in all the central american countries several times since I was a Child.
I like to travel, I have been in the USA (Orlando Fla. New York city, Houston Tx. Daytona Beach and a few other cities of the Florida state. I have been also in South America, Venezuela, and Brasil
Brasil, planing to go to Machu Pichu in Peru this year 2009 and probably Argentina and Chile.
Central America is a unique region of the american continent, is the tropical area of this part of the planet, as you can guess it is a very beautiful and exotic zone, the tropical rainforest, the caribbean with the most beautiful white sand beaches from Belice to Honduras and Nicaragua all in the atlantic coast of the region and very kind people. We have the pacific ocean too, with many interesting places and beaches of dark sand, beautiful landscapes.
In Honduras you have some beautifull tropical islands in the atlantic and pacific oceans, see my pages to discover the beauty of my country and it´s people. Read a litlle about me and my family in my personal album.
Traveling and having the chance to go into the past of an ancient world is a Unique experience, The Mayan empire flourished here before Colombus came to this continent, Copan is considerdered the Athens of the new world
Here my nephew and my daughter are waiting for the tank to be filled at a gas station in our way back from a prom of a new nice i have (she wanted to call me as her uncle thougth she really isn't my nice.), The prom was in the city of Olanchito in the midlle of the banana plantations of the country and 9 hours away from the city of Tegucigalpa where we live.
Danli, one hour driving from Tegucigalpa the capital city. Danli is a small and old city with old architecture with a spanish style.. We went there to supervise the construction of an ATM for a local bank, You can always ask for money with your credit cards to make sure you don't run out of cash, Danlí is well nown for the production of tobaco that is exported to the entire world.
It will take you only 8 to 9 hours to get from the pacific ocean to the atlantic ocean by car, going from the pacific ocean and heading north you will travel througth valleys near the pacific coast then up to the mountains, Higlands and then you will again go to the sea level at the atlantic coast. You will see the hot pacific beaches of Honduras, the rainforest, and the beautifull Atlantic coast with great places to visit and enjoy.
Like in all central america, there are many birds spieces, nature is amazing, you can go kayaking, birdwatching, climbing muntains in the rainforest breathing pure air, or you can go to the most beautifull beaches in the north coast (atlantic ocean), our part of the caribbean and go sorkeling in the most clear blue water as if you where in Belice or Cancun in Mexico, but with nature almos in its primitive way, and you can also visit small villages of great beauty with old arquitecture and different cultures and share with them their culture and their kindness and hospitality.
A native honduran girl selling corn at the road. CORN, HOT WATER SALT AND SOME FIRE.
Food is one of the many atraction to all strangers, my american friends love to come here and taste the food, the fruits, and our coffe. and of course our "GUARO" (alcoholic beverage )
See this clear water and the Coral reef we have the beautifull Bay Islans famous for being a scuba diving paradise. This picture I borrowed from the LetsGoHonduras oficial site, Cayos Cochinos are a serie of tiny litlle islands that you can see from the plane in your way to the mayor Bay Islands. In the Bay Islands the snorkeling is the favorite sport, The Island of Utila is known for it's cheap schools for scuba diving and snorkeling. The bigger Islan is Roatan, beautifull beaches and fancy hotels, rates vary from 7.00 dolars to 350.00 dolars or more, , this means simple cabins with a fan to sofisticated hotels with everything like cable TV, Air conditioning, double king size beds, bathroom with jacuzzy and fancy restorants and acomodations.
The third island is Guanaja, lovely place and no cars or roads, if you want to forget about noise this is the place to go. Snorkeling is unique becouse of the clear blue water, white sand and beautiful coral reef, the three islands have a great coral reef, you wil love it. Many many people from europe and japan are discovering this places and there are direct fligths fron Italy that come every day to this islands. You need to be the next one.
