Getting TO/AROUND: There are a number of ways to get to Newcastle. Probably the easiest is to drive. Take the Newcastle exit from the freeway from Sydney. Coming from the north, if you are coming along the Pacific Highway, you bipass Raymond Terrace and then head for Hexham. At Hexham, follow the signs to Newcastle. If you are coming along the New England Highway, follow the signs to Sydney and get onto the freeway. Once on the freeway, take the Newcastle exit.

You can also get to Newcastle by train. Get off either at Newcastle station (right in the heart of downtown) or Broadmeadow (bigger, Countrylink station).
If you have a car, drive. Otherwise, the city buses are pretty good. If you only intend to be in the downtown area, it is small enough to do on foot. Shopping and beaches and restaurants are within a close proximity.
