I tend to get a lot of e-mail questions about where to stay in Niigata for a better price.
There's a new hotel in Niigata and it's a lot cheaper than most of the other ones I know of.
Unique Qualities: The price for a single room is about 6,300 yen (that's cheap in Japan).
What's special great this hotel is the price for a multi-single room in is 8,000 yen (6,300 yen for one only). This is a good deal because in the case of many hotels they'll charge you double for a second occupant.
The location is also good because it's located close to downtown Furumachi.
You can walk there straight from Niigata Station on the Bandai side in about 25 minutes.
Or you can take a taxi or bus (see below).
If you're coming to Niigata when the weather is good then I'd recommend that you walk as you'll get a nice view of the downtown area that way, especially as you get closer to the riverside area on your way to crossing Bandaii Bridge.
