Driving around on my way, in the general direction away from Dublin, I found this little castle and I had to see it.
It turns out this caslte is used as a hotel and a place for general ceremony, today.
The castle is said to be haunted by a 7-year ghost of a wizard (named something like Gerald of Earl) who is supposed to take on the enemies of Ireland on his own good time. I can only imagine he has some difficulty, as announcing his name probably doesn't do much to instill fear.
All ghosts aside, this castle has a pretty tranquil feel about it. While I was there I didn't have any run ins with any polterguiest or anything of that nature. But, then... I have never been an enemy of Ireland (as I am of Irish blood myself).
So, if you're on Gerald's list I guess you better watch out.
- Pros:Quaint and quiet. It feels nice & removed.
- Cons:It's not hopping with excitement. (But who cares, anway).
- In a nutshell:Hey, this is a nice castle. Check it out. "I liked it better than Kilkenny's."

We actually stayed there. It was very stormy, I could believe that the place was haunted!
