I lived in Oxford with my best friend, Ilana, for 4 months. I lived with an elderly Irish woman and her West Indian husband. It was quite an experience. The food is the absolute worst I've ever experienced. Sometimes I would scrape it into the trashbag in my room and take it outside to the nearest McDonalds- a place I wouldn't dream of eating at at home. McDonalds was a luxury in Oxford. Before I sound too whiny, please note that the 4 months I spent there have changed my entire life around. I will never view the world or myself the same way again. I was given the opportunity to travel abroad to other countries, meet new friends, and even an Irish (ex)boyfriend who I met on the airplane on my way there, developed my underused directional skills, my people skills, survival necessities, learned how to be hungry and for how long, how to adapt, and most of all, I found myself and my soul again after a period of intense boredom and repetative behavior in the States. Thank you Oxford. |
