leaving the park
That long day was over, and we were already on our route to exit the park and head back west wards towards Fresno.
The wonderful sunset seemed to say "hello!" to us...
We slept at a microbic place called "Tulare" that seemed to consist mainly in a collection of motels and fast foods.
Next stop: Las Vegas
how lack of significance we are...
This funny picture brings me impressions about life and the world.
Look at how small the big car, and us as well, appear if compared with those two sequoias, that are not even among the biggest we saw there.
At this time of night I tend to become spiritual, or not able to think clearly anymore...
zooming the wildlife
This picture is already in one of my albums, I know, but I love it so much that I propose it to you here with greatest pleasure.
It is the outcome of a long hunt for a squirrel that approached the car so close I could not avoid to pull out the camera from the bag again to catch him. Too bad I had just put everything in order.
I made about 20 pictures before taking this one. The advantages of a digital camera.
a fast lunch
After having visited, and honoured, the great General Sherman Sequoia Tree, we were heading back to the car while leoleo started jumping and making large gestures to me, in silence.
I went ther eand she showed me that small squirrel having something for lunch on a branch.
It was the beginning of the squirrel festival that would have been lasting for days, while visiting the parks.
a dead sequoia
These beings resist and become so big and old thanks to one single factor: they grow fast.
Their immense size allow them to resist fires and other accidents. The only thing that may kill them, together with the Man, is the structural collapse.
In other words they grow so big that their structure is not able to sustain the incredible weight anymore, and so they crumble and die.
Here leoleo sitting on a dead sequoia being photographed by a friend.

Some infos about the General Sherman.
This huge tree is the largest living being on earth.
This is not the tallest tree here, but the largest. It weighs about 1300 tons, it is almost 90 meters tall and its age exceed 3200 years.
The General was here already when no civilization was present, even the most ancient middle-america ones. Only the first colonization, coming from Asia, dates back to an age older than the birth of this monster.
Sherman perspective
This is taken exactly below the tree, which owes its name by a Civil War Veteran.
I took the idea to take this picture from a japanese guy with a megacamera.
He appeared as one that was able to take good pictures so we asked to take one with my camera. He started joking us shouting "So! Ready ONe! Two! Four! Seven!..." and so on. He took ages to take that pic, and the result was that half the image shows terrain. Stupid man!
2nd try
Let's try again, can you see me now?
I'm stubborn, and maybe I succeeded in showing myself in front of the General Sherman Sequoia tree.
The thing I must say now is that I was about 10 meters ahead of the tree, and so the tree in even bigger than it appears here.
The tree is surrounded by a large fence that keeps visitors away from th grass, because sequoias' roots grow close to the surface and may be damaged by foots.
Me and the General
I'll try to do my job, anyway.
This picture shows me and the General Sherman Sequoia tree.
OH well! Look better! I'm there! Can you see me! Hellooooo!!! I'm the small insect at the bottom of the tree.
Well. I tried. Forgive me, it is not me that I'm a dwarf, it is Him that is a giant (or maybe both?)
the monster
This is the main course of the park, the General Sherman Sequoia Tree in all its magnificence.
What can I say? Embarassing.
Never seen anything like this, never imagined anything like this.
Nor I'm able to describe the scene, bad writer, possibly. But the only thing I can say is that this is a thing to see being there, not in a picture.
