  • Piazza del Popolo at sunset as seen from the Pincio Terrace inside Villa Borghese, one of the largest gardens in Rome.

This square is not a parking anymore, so it is far more enjoyable

  • I tried to give you a different perspective of the most monument in Rome, the world famous Coliseum.

I took from above the square. I suggest you to climb there, you'll enjoy a wonderful view of the monuments from there.

  • It's a picture I could not forget to include.

The Roman Forums were, like all the forums in every roman town, the place were the town life developed, crowded with people and markets at all times.

The ancient Rome had 1 million inhabitants around year 1 A.D.

My wife is not from Rome but I feel she's a good addition...

  • That is not the moon.

The Pantheon's roof has a hole in the middle.

It is the only window of the whole structure.

In the Pantheon many kings where buried

  • Castel Sant'Angelo caught at night through a bridge over Tiber.

The ancient Rome grew around Tiber, especially by the side behind me when I was taking this pic.

  • Castel Sant'Angelo again.
It has been a prison for centuries under popes' dominion.

The lights on the right are from the bridge just show in my previous pic.

  • At one end of the Roman Forums there is the Coliseum, at the opposite end there is a large square, called Piazza Venezia, dominated by the only monument that is not centuries old, it is called "Altare della Patria", fatherland's altar.

It has been built around 1920, after the first world war, and it is actually a mausoleum, a tomb of an unknown soldier. It is a monument against the absurdity of war. Too bad in 1940 Benito Mussolini, the ruler of Italy in that period, declared war to England and France taking the nazists' side, appearing at a balcony of Palazzo Venezia, in front of the monument.

  • This is the road that roman armies run along parading in front of the emperor after a victory.
Prisoners and slaves were showed to people here before being killed in the Colosseum.

In the distance, upon that hill there is "Massenzio"

  • This area is still alive after 2000 years.
Here, in summer, many concerts and spectacles take place, just like in the Arena in Verona

  • Piazza Navona
One of the largest squares in Rome, designed by architect Bernini, intended to symbolize the ancient arenas where Romans enjoyed two-wheeled chariots races.

These races were bloody indeed, and very often competitors died, crushed by other vehicles.
