Getting TO/AROUND: The Chao Phraya river represents the main road of Bangkok.
Hundreds of boats swarm up and down the river day and night.
Some of them (quite big) are used as buses.
Bus stops are docks. People stands there waitingfor the 'bus'. The bus arrived, DOESN'T STOP but only slows down, and a small boy jumps down to the dock, secures the boat with a rope, and shouts to jump onboard...
You pay for the trip onboard to 'officers' (I've found a baby not older that 10 years).
There are two types of taxis. The River taxi are boat similar to Venice gondolas, managed by private drivers, that run on the river and the other canals at incredible speed, compared with the size of the boats themselves.
Bangkok is full of canals, sometimes it's called the Asia Venice, but it's very different. Bangkok is a big, messy, living town. Millions of people live there. Venice is a sort of monument, just a few people live in the ancient town.
This is a photo of Chao Phraya at the sunset, show Modern hotel and small boats. Let me say, this is the contradiction of alla the places I've visited in southeast asia, hi-tech modernities and ancient traditions.
