I actually live in Huesca, 75 kilometres north of Zaragoza in the pre-pirenees. Huesca has a population of 45,000 and is the capital of the province. Main subsistance is agriculture, services and very light industry. It also has a budding tourist industry using Huesca as a base camp from which to make sorties to the mountains in the north (30 minutes)(Ordesa National Park is now a World Heritage site), desert to the south (45 minutes) and to the east low mountain and scrub (40 minutes). Good birdwatching, climbing, kayak, camel trails, paragliding and sailgliding all within 1 hour of Huesca and in the evening the city provides all the comforts expected by the traveller who doesn't want to "rough it" every night. Restaurants from the simplest to Michelin starred delights (3) Bars of every description (560+/-) Cinemas (8) galleries and exhibition centres (12). Two major festivals held each year, San Lorenzo in August and Carnival in February with several smaller fiestas throughout the year. Huesca also has the oldest short film festival. This year it is in it´s 32nd edition and runs from 10 thru 19 of June.
- Pros:Safe. Friendly, Uncontaminated, Close to mountains
- Cons:No beach. Poor connections.
- In a nutshell:Huesca, open all year round.
