Erfurt has always attracted famous people: Goethe, Schiller and Bach studied here, even Martin Luther spent some semesters at the university which was founded as early as the 14th century. In 1990 the beauty of the old half-timbered and renaissance style buildings around the Cathedral (photo) were restored.
