Kassel, situated on the Fulda River, was founded by the Romans. Today it has about 200,000 inhabitants and is the largest city in north Hesse. Today, the university city is known for its Documenta - exhibitions of contemporary art, staged every four years since 1955. Kassel was almost completely destroyed during World War II because of the locomotive and panzer factories. |
