  • The "Deutsches Eck" (German Corner) is a small peninsula formed by the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Moselle. This place received its name from knights of the "Deutscher Orden" (German Order) who founded a settlement here in 1216.
Today it is the most popular tourist attraction in Koblenz.

  • Main attraction on the Deutsche Eck peninsula is the monument of the German Emperor Wilhelm I.. The original statue was erected by the sculptor Emil Hundrieser and the architect Bruno Schmitz in 1893–1897 but was destroyed by Allied artillery fire in 1945. A private donation made it possible to erect a copy of the statue on this place. It was uncovered in 1993. The total height including the base is 37 m, the copper bronze sculpture (height 14 m) weighs 61.5 tons.

  • Strolling along the Moselleyou will caome across this weird building. It looks like an uneven tower with battlements but it is a residential house. Built in the 16th century in Late-Gothik style, it houses today an restaurant. Furthermore it is the only building in the Old Town that survived the war.

Directions: You can´t miss it when you are in Koblenz. Just look up at the other side of the river Rhein. There the fort sits on top of a mountain overlooking the whole area.

  • Don't miss the view from the fortress down to the city of Koblenz. The river in the foreground flowing from south to north, is the Rhine and the one that comes from the west is the Moselle. The tip at the confluence is the "Deutsches Eck with the monument of the German Emperor Wilhelm I.
