Bridges over Pregnitz River
The Pregnitz River crisscrosses the centre of Nürnberg and you find on the river a lot of beautiful buildings and every here and there a wooden or stony bridge. The oldest wooden bridge is the footbridge "Henkersteg" (photo 1) erected in 1457. Right next to the wodden "Henkersteg" is the stony Baroque "Karlsbrücke" (photo 2) made in 1728.
City Hall
The city hall of Nürnberg consists of different parts in distinctive architectural styles. The oldest is in Baroque style and was built between 1616 and 1622, most parts reflect the style of Italian Renaissance. Inside you can find a courtroom, a jail and of course numerous offices.
"Schöner Brunnen"
"Schöner Brunnen" ("beautiful fountain") is a richly painted fountain near the Chruch of Our Lady. The fountain's 40 sculptures reflect the world-view of the Holy Roman Empire. It was built in the late 14th century and has a height of 19 meters. Especially in the Christmas time the fountain shine golden because of the reflection of the Christmas decoration of the stalls around.
Hauptmarkt
The Hauptmarkt has always been centre of Nürnberg. In the mediaeval times executions took place here.
Today on the square at the Chruch of Our Lady several festivals like the annual Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market) or the weekly fruit&vegetable market take place here.
View over the city
From top of the hill you have a breathtaking view over the town. You can either take a view from the Sinwell-Tower (the round one) or just a view from the walls.
I recommend to climb up the Sinwell Tower on a clear and sunny day, on a misty day like I had, it is sufficient to have a look from the walls.
Kaiserburg
The Kaiserburg (Imperial Castle) is the landmark of Nürnberg. It had been seat of Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire for over five hundred years beginning in 1050. The castle towers over the city from a hill. It consists of actually three parts: the Kaiserburg itself, the Burggrafenveste (Count's Castle) and the Stadtburg. It was erected over five centuries beginning in the early 11th.
I was here in winter and the way up to the castle was very slippy. You should wear good sneaker.
City Fortifications
Nürnberg still ghas a very well-preserved city fortification.Almost four kilometers of walls and 67 watch towers survived wars. In the ditch infront of the walls you can see some small private gardens today. In mediaeval times the ditch was flooded.
the white tower
I have no clue why this tower is called "White Tower" as it was made of red stone. It was part of the old city fortification and acted as watch tower.
The tower marks today the entrance to the pedestrian zone "Breite Strasse"
Frauenkirche
The Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is located at the Hauptmarkt. It was built 1352 – 58 as a donation of Emperor Karl IV. Daily at noon you can see the "Männleinlauf". That's a clock showing seven Electors paying homage to Emperor Karl IV.
Usually the church is open daily but when i was here it was closed due to preparation for a fest.
Church of St. Lorenz
The construction of St. Lorenz was begun in 1250 and lasted over two hundred years. It has always been the largest church of Nürnberg. The interior has a lot of highlights for visitors - for example the tabernacle by Adam Kraft, the crucifix of Veit Stoss or the colorful glass windows.
I recommend german_eagle's travelogue for more impressions of the interior
